The idea of this commemoration was born many years ago out of the Welsh Socialist Vanguard/Cymru Goch I 'Collective' and later further advanced by Cofiwn, Welsh Socialist Republican Movement and in time the Dic Penderyn Society of Merthyr Tudful but in area of present initiative advanced for some years by Red Remembrancer Blog and Cymdeithas Lerwsyn yr Heliwr and the blog: Pitchfork and Pike.
This year via Partisans Cymru of the Great Unrest Group a renewed effort is being made to advance the Initiative with greater purpose the intention being to establish, develope and advance what in time will become a major 'Head of the Valleys' International Red Commune Festival that will be both commemorative and educational in themes that are informative of both home and international Socialist Struggles and Workers/Peoples Revolt as that of Lyons 1831 in France and the Sharpe Rebellion 1831 in Jamaica. As well other popular revolts and Workers Rebellions at home and abroad up to our present times, of course we are particularly influenced by the Paris 1831 Commune History and Commemoration. This annual event will not divorce itself from contemporary Socialist Struggles at home and abroad and will seek to provide a platform and vehicle by which such Socialist Struggles will be advanced by means of activists gathering in this event annually to discuss and debate as well educate in time through shared information and experience. Included in above initiative will be in time advance of associated ideas as Red Commune College, Theatre and Films as well in association with Cymdeithas Lewsyn yr Heliwr continuing to educate on our Peoples/Workers History and provide information as to when and where commemorations might be held and as well memorials set up as example of present campaign for a Lewis Lewis Red Flag statue in Hirwaun and a 3 June Merthyr Massacre in Merthyr at a Plas Faner Goch in Town centre around site of where the Castle Hotel once existed. So, all quite ambitious and we will need much support and a broad platform of active aid and assistance, thus this first event will be quite an informal field trip over area of the 1831 Insurrection allowing then for opportunity to informally discuss the objective and aims set out here and other suggestions. Illustration below part of our campaign for a Lewis Lewis/Red Flag Statue to be set up in Hirwaun.
Please note that it is suggested then a Red Commune Cymru 1831 Collective is set up of a representative body of societies and individuals who would like to give some commitment to all this over years ahead. This collective will be closely associated for a while with the Great Unrest Group but in main as a shepherding group until such time as it is felt the Red Commune Cymru 1831 'Collective' may be come independent and the Great Unrest group as other bodies may be affiliated. So, hopefully this will enthuse you enough to attend this initial launch event, in meantime take opportunity to pursue further back ground and information from the below blogs:

Rural Peoples Struggle will not be forgotten and in above 1831 Instance it is worth while keeping in mind that it was Ceredigion Migrants to Penderyn/Hirwaun area who would have imbued the workers with ideas of Ceffyl Pren 'Natural Justice' Corn Riots and Land Enclosure Struggles as that on Mynydd Bach 1826. Maybe, location for a Cymdeithas Lewsyn yr Heliw Summer Field Trip later in the year.
