MERTHYR MASSACRE 3 JUNE 1831 PLAQUE CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED BY CYMDEITHAS LEWSYN YR HELIWR Following Plaque Being Placed On The Lamb, Penderyn.

It 's always struck me how seeing as Dic Penderyn is remembered by a plaque in Merthyr and now Lewis Lewis is remembered with a plaque is it not time the 24 People who were shot and Killed in the Merthyr Massacre were not also remembered with a plaque in Merthyr as well. Thus we made a small token effort to promote such an initiative which we hope the long founded local Dic Penderyn Society or the recently set up Council supported 1831 Memorial Committee will take up.

Gathering outside The Lamb ready for unveiling of the plaque.

The Unveiling Ceremony.

The Plaque.

The Celler in which Lewis Lewis was held.

A talk by Viv Pugh of the Dic Penderyn Society.

An exhibition placed in Pub by DPS.

Week Later a Visit To Merthyr To Launch Campaign to promote placement of a Merthyr Massacre Plaque close to location of an up to now unrecognized historic event in a public place that needs to be rectified in haste, I suggest quite possible without delay as a vast sum of money is not required to fulfill this significant purpose. As well the location, I prefer for such also me named Y Plas 1831, see photos following:

STRIKE (see Poem at end of post) and the 1911 SOCIALISM V NATIONALISM V SOCIALISM DEBATE - HAS IT MOVED ON WITH LEANNE WOOD's RAINBOW REPUBLICANISM?

I doubt it certainly not with all the Post Devolution Dilettantism of the Labour and Plaid Cymru 'One Wales' Coalition and it's recent revival to the fore by the Plaid Cymru Rural Right as represented by Dafydd Elis Thomas and and Cynog Davis. Neither will the Leanne Limp Left Coalition of Greens and other political opportunists take it any further towards seeing established a Wales Socialist Party let alone a Left Wales Liberation Movement, mindful of the failures of the Welsh Socialist Republican Movement and it's offspring Cymru Goch II in this direction:

Other than above, the Alternative Nationalist 'Patriotic Fringe' appears to me moving towards a more political right rather than simply as in the past being a loose collection of apolitical patriots and cultural Nationalist Republicans as past examples from the 'Sixties' Patriotic Front to a much later Cymdeithas Cyfamod y Cymru Rhydd and a verity of ''Welsh Republicanisms''. Today this Patriotic Fringe is being pushed towards a  Political Welsh Nationalists Right by Nationalist Blogs as Jac' O'r North, Eryr Gwyn and Misarable Old Fart (Google up yourselves) whilst the mixed bag Super Patriots of Balchder Cymru for many years have appeared and harmless Patriotic Fringe Grouplet, last year however a serious right wing racists following seemed to be gathering in their darkening shadow:

POST SCRIPT:

A Celtic Fascism has never had an home in Wales to date other than in the form of the BNP and EDL/WDL supporters but is by no means unknown in other Celtic Countries. As Irleand's Blue Shirts and Brittany's Breiz Atao. That is not to say, it would never arise in Wales in a more native rather than 'Anglicised' form, so we should be alert to any further rightwing racist connections to Nationalist events as the annual Cilmeri Commemoration.

RED SALUTE TO THE GROUP MANOUCHIAN French Resistane.

Democracy and Class Struggle says nothing exposes the fake patriotism  of the Le Pen's more than their apologetics for the Vichy Government and the Nazi Occupation of France, it took immigrants to defend the honour of France from the Vichy Le Pen collaborators of yesterday.

Red Salute to the Group Manouchian may they inspire a new generation to combat Fascism in France.
FTP-MOI - Paris, Groupe Manouchian.
Francs-Tireurs et Partisans de la Main d'Oeuvre Immigrée.
FTP-MOI were a sub-grouping of the Francs-tireurs et partisans movement in the French Resistance to the German occupation of France during World War II.
It originated from the Main d'Oeuvre Immigrée.
FTP-MOI -

The FTP-MOI groups were had been created in the Paris region at the same time as the Francs-tireurs et partisans, in 1941.
Their ranks were filled with members from the Main d'Oeuvre Immigrée.
Foreign communists living in France but not part of the French Communist Party had been put in place in May 1942.
Although integrated with the FTP, these groups depended directly on Jacques Duclos, who passed on orders from the Communist International (Comintern).

The FTP-MOI were among the most active and determined resistance groups, particularly as being foreigners, and mostly Jews, they were under the direct watch of the Vichy regime, which left them no choices but secrecy or internment.
Because they depended directly on the Comintern, with Duclos as intermediary, it was often they who were on the front line when the order to fight came from Moscow.
The Parisian groups were initially led by Boris Holban, then Missak Manouchian.
When Manouchian was arrested, Holban took over again from the beginning of 1944.

Their trial was held in front of a German military tribunal at the hôtel Continental.
It began on 17 February 1944, lasted between two and four days, and after a 30-minute deliberation, reached the following verdict:

23 accused were condemned to death, with no possibility of appeal.

22 were shot immediately on the 21 February 1944 at mont Valérien.

The execution of Olga Bancic was suspended for further enquiry.
In a new sentence passed on the 10 May 1944 at Stuttgart, she was condemned to death and promptly beheaded by axe.

One accused, Migratulski, was transferred to French jurisdiction.

The red poster reads:

"Liberators? Liberation by the army of crime!"

Affiche Rouge:

"La traque de l'affiche rouge" (1/4):

L'affiche rouge (Poem)

Heroes and Martyrs of the Resistance - France 1940-45
The Manouchian Group (The Last Letters)

Vichy France:

"There was such a friendship between us, between all these people coming from everywhere, Jews, Spanish, Italians, Germans, Armenians and French of course.
A brotherly friendship which surpassed all that you can imagine";
explains Arsene Tchakarian to the 3rd year students of Chérioux junior high school in Vitry-sur-Seine.

Arsene Tchakarian, of Armenian origin, is now 89 years old.
He is one of the only two survivors of a group called Groupe Manouchian under FTP-MOI; that was created at the Spring of 1942.
It was an extremely well organized group.
On one hand it was formed by elderly militants and on the other hand by young Parisians of about 20 years old who fought both to defend their views and against the Nazi occupation.

The red poster (Affiche rouge) which denounced them became famous in a very sad way as it meant the breaking up of the group.

The Red Poster:

From left to right, and top to bottom, individual portraits are labeled:

GRZYWACZ: Polish Jew, 2 terrorist attacks

ELEK: Juif Hungarian Jew, 5 derailments
